Marijuana, cocaine and ecstacy seized in three Michigan drug bustsADRIAN, Michigan -- Drugs, cash and other drug paraphernalia were seized during three drug busts this month in Adrian, Michigan according to police.
Search warrants were served on three locations where drugs were being sold, said Sgt. David Cook of OMNI Team III, the county's undercover narcotics unit. Warrants are being sought for the arrest of several people as a result of the investigations and evidence seized from the three locations, Cook said.
Michigan police executed search warrants Jan. 6 at an apartment house at 807 Chestnut St. and the Sunshine Market convenience store, 1202 E. Maumee St., and Jan. 7 at the first-floor residence of an apartment house at 1055 Michigan Ave.
Cook said some marijuana was seized at the Chestnut Street apartment and there was also some evidence of crack cocaine use. The apartment house is located directly behind McKinley Elementary School on Elm Street.
At Sunshine Market, officers seized marijuana, the club drug ecstasy and cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales, Cook said.
"We had a lot of tips about drug sales there," Cook said.
Marijuana was seized at the Michigan Avenue apartment, and residents of the apartment were conducting marijuana sales, Cook said.
Ecstasy is commonly known as a "club drug" that is used at all-night dance parties called raves. The drug suppresses the urges to eat, drink or sleep. Use of the drug can lead to seizures or stroke and may cause brain damage, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.
Adrian, Michigan Police Chief Mike Martin said his department has also been getting calls and tips about drug sales at the store.
"We're investigating a possible link between the owner of the Sunshine Market and drug activity outside and inside the store," Martin said.
Efforts to contact the store's owner for comment were unsuccessful because the listed phone number was disconnected.
Martin said he appreciated that OMNI officers were investigating drug activity in the city and arresting drug dealers.
