Court delays ruling on Michigan judge who admitted smoking marijuana
TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN -- The Michigan Supreme Court ended its summer term without announcing a decision on the fate of Thomas Gilbert, a Michigan district judge who has admitted smoking marijuana.

The Michigan Grand Traverse County judge's duties were restricted last year following his acknowledgment. The state's highest court could have suspended him from the bench.

District Judge Michael Haley said in June the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission had made a recommendation on the matter to the Supreme Court but that court rules prevented him from disclosing it.

Marcia McBrien, spokeswoman for the Supreme Court, told the Traverse City Record-Eagle on Thursday that she could not discuss the Gilbert case or even acknowledge it was pending. But she said it was unlikely the court would release any decisions for the rest of the summer.
